And it’s likely that sticking with a 2K DI (presumably upscaled for this 4K Blu-ray) is the reason Ready Player One’s CGI work looks convincing for the most part, avoiding that forced, artificial look that you can get when 2K effects are placed within an otherwise mostly native 4K film (see the 4K Blu-ray of X-Men: Apocalypse to see that issue in action). This isn’t really a surprise, though, given the extent of the film’s reliance on CGI, where 4K rendering is still in its infancy. ![]() Quality trumps quantity when you're trying to solve the ultimate gaming Easter egg.
